Robbie Vincent returns to the airwaves

Legendary broadcaster Robbie Vincent will be BACK this coming Spring bank holiday (25th May). On Monday from 10am, Robbie returns with four hours of “nothing but Essential Rhythms of soul, jazz and funk”. Live from his Music Garden in the deepest darkest countryside, he'll be taking email messages through JazzFM.com or send him a tweet via @JazzFM.

Gregory Porter

We have a packed weekend of treats! On Friday evening, jazz superstar Gregory Porter will be joining Ian Shaw on the Ronnie Scott’s Radio Show (9pm). Saturday morning (10am) sees Nigel Williams speaking to saxophone giant Kamasi Washington, discussing his score for the Michelle Obama documentary Becoming. Chris Philips is celebrating the much-loved bassist Cecil McBee on his 85th birthday (The Blueprint, 10pm). Then on Sunday evening (Folded Space, 1am), Tony Minvielle will be joined by US pianist Christian Sands and playing tracks from his new album Be Water.

As part of our Established 1990 series, this is a chance to explore the extraordinary life and wonderful music of the woman dubbed “The female Frank Sinatra” by Tony Bennett.

Chris Gilvear is your host with guests including Peggy’s granddaughter Holly Foster-Wells, contemporary jazz stars Jo Harrop and China Moses, revealing why she was so important to their own musical journeys.

Charlie Parker ‘Chasin’ the Bird’

Jazz scholar and cartoonist Dave Chisholm and Peter Markowski are set to tell the story of legendary saxophonist Charlie Parker through a new graphic novel - Chasin' the Bird: Charlie Parker in California - which focuses on his tumultuous time in the state during the 1940, his relationship with trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie and his admission into a mental hospital, all of which led to the penning of some of his most famous works.
